Sickness Sucks

Yesterday I felt the notoriouse nasal throat soreness. I knew I was getting sick. Mouth ulcers seem to lead it though, by a week. I should have taken a hint and have hit the zinc, Im just not sure how much is too much when you're pregnant. Today Im miserable. Stuffy nose- sneezing, sore throat. BLAH.

For now checking my herbal books to see what I can take that is safe during pregnancy. :-)

Who let the Fish out of the Pond?

We have been troubleshooting our waterfall/pond since the day we moved in. We are shooting for sometime this month to get it all completed, but so far we're just waiting.

In the MEANTIME, the pond has been a cesspool for mosquitoe larve, and draining it left a big, sore hole in the side of our yard that would only fill again with rain and sprinkler water.

We decided to let the pond be filled, and instead- put some nice fish in there. We were warned that the last owners had a rough time keeping the pond stocked with fish because of the birds of prey in the area. We took our chances.

Since we live right on the river, and Spokane River fish are reccomended to NOT be eaten- we caught a bunch of small fish, and recently a few pike and a carp and just threw 'em in there. So far, the small fish have been in there a month, and there has been no bug problem. We only caught the carp a day or so ago, and figured it would do well- probably eat the other fish... nope.

Today I went out there, its on the bottom bellyside up, dead.
I couldnt figure out why, but such is life. Yesterday we battled the water dispenser for the whole thing because the floater broke off, gushing water everywhere. Seems we have some escapees because of it.

As I was carrying this dead fish carcass via the metal rake down to dispense in the river, I noticed a dead fish laying on the wooden pathway. "That's odd." I said, and thought of the birds of prey. As I continued down the path, there was yet another fish carcass, this time on the lawn. I tossed the dead carp into the river and headed back up to the house.

Jay is pretty sure the unfortunate fishies escaped through the water overflow pipe as the water was flowing through it. Didnt quite make it back to the river, Im afraid. But you have to give them an 'A' for effort.
