Bah- what a day

It's just been an emotional and trying day today. Did I ever tell you how much I love Halloween? I do, I love it a lot not because of any of the scary stuff- but for the fun of dressing up! My kitty litter cake was a hit at my hubby's work (again!) so I have that. I'm glad they loved it- and if you work with him, thank you guys for loving it!

Otherwise, did you know that Safari isn't letting me log into blogger? Nope, keeps redirecting me.

My talk with MobileMe Support

So, as a Macintosh user, I have recently had to face the facts that certain things have to change... whether I like it or not.

I chat on iChat with my old .mac nickname that wasn't active as a working account. Now that .mac has been phased out and transformed into .me , I am finding it impossible to administrate my options for my old nickname that I use regularly to chat with because the fact it wasn't active when it was migrated meant they deleted the account overall. All I want to do is change my password, but alas- it's.... impossible! Yep, that is what I said- you cannot change your old .mac password. It doesn't exist any longer other than in the AIM chat world. It's un-administratable.

If you know of an answer, by all means let me know. Here is my chat with the tech support of apple.com .

P.S.- Don't let them tell you that you can change it via the iforgot.apple.com web URL, because it doesn't work either. It will say you changed it, but changes will not take.

Joe T: Ok, .Mac was actually transitioned into MobileMe back in July. As your account was active during that period, you were allowed to keep the @mac.com email address, although you now also have an @me.com address as well. Both will empty into the same mailbox, though, as they are the same account.

Joe T: If you used the @mac.com email address for your iChat login, the iChat login is actually completely separate from .Mac or MobileMe. You can use the email address for that login, but beyond that the password created in iChat is separate from your account password.

Just to let you know, those @mac.com email addresses that were used for iChat logins were allowed to retain the ability to use them or iChat, but all other functions of the .Mac account were ended when the account became inactive for an extended period. Let me see if there is a way to be able to change the password for your iChat login, though.

Joe T: Thank you for waiting, Jyn. Ok, from what I have been able to find, it does not appear that there is currently any way to change the password for your iChat login xxxx@mac.com. Basically, what occurred is that your .Mac account with that address became inactive sometime before the transition to MobileMe and was deprovisioned. When the transition occurred, any .Mac accounts that were in a deprovisioned status became recycled and available again for creation as a MobileMe account, although without the @mac.com (all new accounts created after the transition have only @me.com). The @mac.com addresses were allowed to continue being used as iChat accounts, though.

Joe T: Unfortunately, the iChat login version of your address used the same password as the @mac.com account. As the account no longer exists, though, we have no way to be able to change that password.

Joe T: Correct, if his account remained active, he would still be able to change the password through MobileMe. Your jxxxxxx@mac.com currently only exists as a iChat login, though, and is no longer a MobileMe account because it was inactive and became recycled during the transition. As the account no longer exists with MobileMe, there is no way to edit or change the password.

However, unlike the @mac.com addresses, when the account becomes inactive the @me.com address can no longer be used to login to iChat until the account is reactivated.

Joe T: Currently you can use your trial MobileMe account, xxxxx@me.com, to login to iChat. Again, though, this will only be usable while the account remains active. You can change the password on this account to one of your choosing at any time by going to www.me.com/account. You will need to enter the current password, after which you can change it through Password Settings on the left.

Jyn Meyer: Right, but say i dont want to continue the trial- what would I need to do to have an administratable ichat nickname?

Joe T: Ok, essentially, when you use your .Mac or MobileMe email address for iChat, it actually creates an AIM (AOL Instant Messenger) username as well which becomes linked with your .Mac or MobileMe account. When you are accessing iChat, it is actually doing so with the linked AIM account, though this is all handled by iChat. While your .Mac account no longer exists, if you are still able to use xxxxx@mac.com in iChat it may be possible that the AIM account it was linked to is still active. If you can gain access to that AIM account, you may be able to change the password from that end. Unfortunately, AIM is something that is outside of our ability to provide support or direction with.

Yay! I cleaned my kitchen today. After dropping my husband off at work, the sunshine felt so good- I turned on a good African music CD and washed my floor by hand. I also wiped down my table which had milk splotches all over it from kid use. It's such a beautiful day today!
So spirits are up, the weather is nice and windy with sunshine- great time to clean the house out! My younger three and I are going to go pumpkin hunting in a few hours, so life is good.
