Ok, so- I watched the video footage (still trying to figure out which website I watched it at) and saw the pictures and people picking up the said decomposed carcass that was left.
What is it?
Well, today after visiting my local zoo with my kids, I saw a great skull of an otter at the otter exhibit. The Montauk Monster LOOKS a LOT like ... a decomposing otter.
Without the hair and with perhaps part of the snout missing, I really think that could be an otter.
Below is why I think it is an otter:
Here is an illustration of an otter skull. You can see a partly decomposed nose tip can easily look like a beak from the direction of the image.
So there you have it. I think they need to just bag those bones and remains, and identify the DNA of the thing to stop all the stupid speculation.
